In case you missed it, GeekOut is Western North Carolina's annual popular arts convention and happened the weekend of June 6-8. It is a celebration of film, art, costuming, comics, and animation that happens right here in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Held on the campus of UNCA, GeekOut fills the Sherrill Center with hordes of cosplay enthusiasts, LARPING - (Live Action Role Playing) fans, comic collecters, video game geeks, art fanboys, and much more. It is a bit like walking into a different dimension, especially if you aren't used to letting your nerd show. To give you a taste of what GeekOut was like, here are just a few of the activities you could have indulged in during your time at the convention:
  • Rented a sword and tried your hand at LARPINGĀ
  • Dressed up in your favorite Cosplay and entered the daily costume contest
  • Rented and driven a Dalek
  • Learned how to play Magic the Gathering
  • Attended a seminar on Vampires Don't Suck: the undead that do not sparkle
  • Witnessed a truly geek wedding
  • Met cast members from The Walking Dead
  • Participated in an Anti Bullying Parade
  • Auditioned for an upcoming new web series.... and much more
