Welcome to the Memorial Day Edition of the GritVegas Weekend Update! As always, there's so much going on in Asheville. This weekend features a lot of events that run Friday through Sunday, which means you have time to check them all out. If there's anything we missed that you're excited about, let us know in the comments! How are you spending the long weekend?   Friday -- Sunday   Urban Gypsy Traveling Trunk Show Returns to AVL! @ Mountain Lights Friday + Saturday 11-8 Sunday 12-5   Baby, you know the Grit in particular loves it some Urban Gypsy Trunk Show. Seeing the lovely Elle and her amazing wares so soon after the last trunk show a few weeks ago is basically like your birthday coming twice in one month. This time, she's setting up at Mountain Lights downtown, and she'll have other vendors there selling jewelry and other wares. This is basically a party, with shopping. And lots of affirmation. Also sparkles, tarot, free hugs, henna, bubbles, "live unicorns," and everything else you could ever possibly want. Dance for a discount!   Asheville Americana Burlesque & Sideshow Festival  Venues throughout town; various times   Also happening all weekend: the Burlesque and Sideshow Festival! Bringing you the best of the best in locally and internationally acclaimed stars and rising performers, with headliners Karolina Lux and Swami YoMahmi. For more information, check out our piece on the festival.    Mountain Sports Festival   Carrier Park Music starts at 5 on Friday and 12:30 Saturday + Sunday   Bringing together outdoor enthusiasts, outfitters, beer and food vendors, musicians (including the Marcus King Band, Andrew Scotchie and the River Rats, and the HIP ABDUCTION), and everyone in between, the Mountain Sports Festival happens this weekend along the banks of the French Broad in West Asheville. Events pepper the schedule, including a frisbee golf tournament!   White Squirrel Festival  Downtown Brevard, NC Music starts at 5:30 on Friday and noon on Saturday + Sunday   Brevard's legendary white squirrels are celebrated at this weekend-long festival of nature, food, and music. Happening in downtown Brevard, it's "eight blocks of street vendors, food vendors, merchants, artists, craftsmen," and more, featuring live music from the Jon Stickley Trio, the Get Right Band, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, and more. Have your camera ready to capture the festivities and, of course, the squirrels.    Saturday   Blue Dream Curry's 1 Year Anniversary  Blue Dream Curry House, 81 Patton Ave 11:30 am - 10 pm   Blue Dream has been serving up some of the most delicious food in Asheville for a year. Check out their anniversary party on Saturday. Local vendors will be schlepping the wares while you partake of the ambrosia Blue Dream dishes out. Raffles, swag, bubbles.    Beer City Festival Roger McGuire Green in downtown Asheville 1-6 pm   This year's Beer City Festival is better than ever, with over 30 breweries participating and over 70 beers to try. Cut the booze with delicious food and sway to the sounds of some fantastic music while you get your buzz on, including headliners Big Chief Juan Pardo and the Golden Comanche Mardi Gras Indians. Tickets for sale here.    Sunday   Flea for Y'all @ Salvage Station 9 am-4 pm   The first Flea for Y'all is this Sunday at the Salvage Station! Come get a sneak peek of the grand opening preparations for Salvage Station while you sift through vintage and new treasures. Entry is $2. Food and beer are for sale on site.   Jazz Brunch @ The Imperial Life 12 noon   There's no better way to round out the weekend than with live jazz, all you can eat brunch from Table Restaurant, Bloody Mary's, mimosas, Corpse Revivers, and more at the Imperial Life. Music from the Roaring Lions will accompany the gustatory delights. $15.    Get on the River    Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of float season. What are you waiting for??
