As of noon today, tickets to Digable Planets are on sale for their July 19th show at the Orange Peel. Asheville is a stop on the most recent renion tour for this iconic hip-hop group. Digable Planets is Mary Ann “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira, Craig “Doodlebug” Irving and Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler. They exploded onto the scene in 1993 with their hit "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)," off of their album Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space. The song won a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. Their follow-up album, Blowout Comb, was released the following year and is also considered a groundbreaking classic of the genre.  Although Digable Planets originally broke up in 1995, they have had several reunion tours since then, most recently last year when they played alongside Shabazz Palaces (Ishmael Butler is a founding member of this group). The members of Digable Planets have also produced solo and collaborative albums with artists ranging from Shabazz Palaces to Del the Funky Homosapien, and supergroup eMC.  Openers Camp Lo are stars in their own right, with seven albums under their belt. Their hit "Luchini (This is It)" is still one of the catchiest songs we've ever heard.  Be sure to enter our ticket giveaway for a pair of tickets by leaving a comment below! One lucky winner will be chosen at random at 11:59 pm on Sunday.
