Hank and Cupcakes (above), performing Saturday, January 17 at The SOL Bar of New Mountain Asheville
Looking for something to do this weekend? Need some help? Here’s our little roundup of just
some of what’s going on over the next few days in Asheville. If you hit the streets, post your pics using the hashtag #avlgrit and you could be in our next roundup photo gallery.
Go out and have some fun.
For The Young at Heart Bookworm:
Jennifer Niven presents "All the Bright Places"
Malaprops Bookstore
January 16- 7 p.m.
Jennifer Niven relates to the inner teenager in all of us in her latest work,
All the Bright Places. So stop by, purchase a book, meet the author and maybe on the way home, grab one or three bottles of wine and relive the years of braces, pimples and awkward slow dances.
For The Musical Globetrotter:
The Nile Project
New Mountain
January 17 & 18 – 8 p.m.
Embarking on their first American tour, over a dozen musicians from countries along the Nile River make a two night stop in Asheville. Their hope; to bring awareness about their ecosystem as well as perform their favorite songs. Workshops are provided. You can read more about it all in a great piece on
mountainx.com.
For the Rhythm Junkie:
Ebb and Flow : a benefit for the Asheville Movement & Flow Society, ft: Musashi Xero, The Last WordBenders, Press B, and Cigarette Umbrellas
The One Stop at Asheville Music Hall
January 17 – 9 p.m.
This FREE show will consist of performances by
Musashi Xero, The Last WordBenders, Press B and Cigarette Umbrellas. Expect some beats to be dropped.
For the Metal Lover Who Just Want Their Ears To Bleed:
Young and in the Way with USX (U.S. Christmas), and Busted Chops
The Mothlight
January 17 – 9:30 p.m.
Young and in the Way might never be able to clean up their reputation as the band who sprayed pig’s blood all over the place during their last Asheville gig, but go check them out anyway. The entire lineup is a metal-lovers dream. Check out
The Mothlight's website for more details.
For Those with a Rockin Sweet Tooth:
Hank and Cupcakes (pictured above) , Andrew Scotchie & the River Rats (pictured below), and Luzius Stone
Sol Bar of New Mountain
January 17 – 9 p.m.
Relish in Brooklyn based band, Hank and Cupcakes as they make a stop in Asheville and celebrate THE Andrew Scotchie (of the River Rats), 22nd birthday. Scotchie along with the River Rats will perform as well as Luzius Stone. And we’re secretly hoping there’s birthday cake. Or at least cupcakes.
