Asheville, what up? We're here with the full weekend report, plus an extra event happening next Tuesday for Asheville Puppet Week! This weekend, you can meet our special guest Toybox and a whole shebang of other puppeteers and their creations in person, eat Korean fusion food downtown, catch a documentary, see live music in the streets, shop for handmade trinkets, and more. Tell us how many events you made it to (or tell us what we missed!) in the comments!   Thursday Billy the Liar @ Trade and Lore // Asheville Puppet Week 8-9:15 pm  Asheville Puppetry Week kicks off with this all-ages show, appropriate for "kindergarteners or a late-night cabaret." This show received Best Performance and Fan Favorite at the National Puppetry Festival, as well as a UNIMA citation for Excellence in the Art of Puppetry (the highest award given in puppetry).   Ronin Knife Korean Pop-Up Dinner @ MG Road 6-11 pm Chef Allen Suh brings his Japanese/Korean fusion to MG Road on his traveling cooking tour. Karaoke with DJ Frano Niño starts at 10.   Friday Downtown After 5 with Asheville All-Stars and Asheville Music School 5-9 pm A "conglomeration" of AVL's finest musical talents descend upon downtown with "Future All-Star" openers from AVL Music School and LEAF Community Arts Delta Jazz Band.   Sorry I Made It Weird: Portraits of People You May Know @ Push Skateshop  6-9 pm Artist Andy Herod paints portraits of the "People You May Know" that show up in his Facebook feed.   Saturday East West Pop Up Shop in West Asheville (278 Haywood Rd) 11-7 pm This beloved popup market returns to Haywood Rd with the best in handmade gifts and treats.   Inside Peace Documentary @ Grail Moviehouse 12-2 pm This documentary follows a group of prison inmates who enroll in a Peace Class (the Peace Education Program), which is going to be offered soon at the Black Mountain Substance Abuse Treatment Center and the Buncombe County Detention Center.    Sunday Circus Fanta-Sea @ Toy Boat // Asheville Puppet Week 2-3:30 pm Another installment of AVL Puppet Week is this family-friendly performance about recycling from Atlanta's That Puppet Guy, featuring guest appearances from a tap dancing octopus, a unicycling seahorse, and more!   WNC Battle of the Burger @ Salvage Station 2-5 pm Eat burgers and sip cold beer while the best chefs compete for recognition, fame, and the title of WNC's Best Burger!    ...and one to grow on!   Tuesday, 8/23 The Wham, Bam! Puppet Slam @ the Grey Eagle // Asheville Puppet Week Starting at 8 pm Asheville Puppet Week closes with this event. David Liebe Hart of The Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! headlines a zany evening of puppets with special guests from Atlanta, Chicago, Orlando and some local favorites from right here in Asheville.
