What started as an annual, 4-day celebration of film and art in Colorado, the 5Point Film Festival has expanded to different cities all over the country and is making its Asheville debut this weekend – August 14-15. 5Point aims to not be just another outdoor film festival by showcasing films that should challenge concepts of adventure while incorporating art, performances, and special guests.   We asked organizers to give us the top 5 things to know about this event and why people should check it out. There are also more details and a full schedule below.
  1. 5Point stands for: Balance, Commitment, Purpose, Humility and Respect.   NOT the adrenaline junkie, huck fest, action porn side of adventure. These are high quality deeper stories, celebrating the best in the outdoor community in an artistic and thoughtful way.     2. This isn't a tour stop.   5Point is investing and creating this experience with the Southeast adventure and art community. This is a unique 5Point event that will grow into a regional attraction in the years to come. 5Point will also play a role in the economic development of the region with the outdoor industry and be a voice for recreational tourism.      3. You will be surprised.   5Point isn't your typical film festival event. Between making the films come alive, the free community gatherings around town, and the "concert" style program and experience in the theater, 5Point will leave you on the edge of your seat, in tears, hugging your neighbor and ready to get after it...however you define adventure.     4. Your mom will like it too.   5Point isn't just for the young or young at heart, it truly has something for everyone. 6 to 80 year olds will love and be inspired by this show and the events around it.     5. It's not all film.   A river cleanup, Van Life Rally, public art installation, kick off party, boat demo Down by the River, and afterparty are all part of the weekend festivities. Not to mention the chance to win gear from Outdoor Research, NRS, Astral, ENO, Land Rover Driving School, and customize your own Liquidlogic BRAAP! kayak!
